(April 17, 2009) - The Met PGA honored its 2008 award winners on Tuesday, April 14, at the 47th Annual Metropolitan PGA Educational Forum at the Westchester Broadway Theatre in Elmsford, N.Y. Sponsored by Callaway Golf, the forum included the presentation of the Met PGA’s major awards along with presentations by Major Dan Rooney, a PGA professional from Oklahoma who has served three tours of duty in Iraq, and NBC sports commentator Jimmy Roberts.

MGA Mourns Passing of Gene Borek at Age 72

April 14, 2009 — Gene Borek, the longtime head professional at Metropolis Country Club in White Plains, N.Y., and one of the most successful club professionals in Met Area history, died at his home in Hartsdale, N.Y., on April 14 after a long battle with cancer. He was 72 years old.

Crestmont CC Pro Pete Famiano Dies at 65

March 30, 2009 — One of the most prominent golf professionals in New Jersey golf history, Peter Famiano, died on March 28 at the age of 65. In a career that spanned more than 30 years, Famiano was a respected member of the Met Area golf community as both a player and colleague.

March 20, 2009 — The MGA Foundation held its annual MGA/USGA Green Chairmen Education Series on March 19 at Hackensack Golf Club. The seminar featured expert speakers addressing a variety of topics of interest to club leaders. The presentations are now available on mgagolf.org, click here to access them. The MGA Foundation also honored Westchester Country Club in Harrison, N.Y., as the recipient of the third annual MGA Club Environmental Award.
