JONATHAN RENZA WINS THE 39TH MGA/METLIFE BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP

BEDFORD, N.Y. (August 10, 2007) – Jonathan Renza of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., defeated Michael Miller of Brewster, N.Y., 3 and 2 to win the 39th MGA/MetLife Boys Championship on Friday in rainy and windy conditions at the Bedford Golf and Tennis Club in Bedford, N.Y. This was the second time the two players have faced off, with Renza taking the first meeting one up in the first round of the Met Junior Championship in July.

The team will travel to Weirton, West Virginia for the 44th playing of the Williamson Cup Inter-City Matches, to be held on August 13 and 14 at Williams Country Club.

MGA/MetLife Boys Championship Returns To Bedford

BEDFORD, N.Y. (August 7, 2007) – A talented field of 16 boys (under 16 years of age) will compete in the 39th MGA/MetLife Boys Championship on Thursday and Friday, August 9 and 10, at Bedford Golf & Tennis Club in Bedford, N.Y. The contestants will compete over two days of match play, preceded by a practice round and luncheon on Wednesday, August 8.

The MGA/MetLife Boys Championship is open to any boy, not yet 16 years of age, who is a student in good standing at an accredited school in the MGA district or who has playing privileges at an MGA member club.

(August 4, 2007) Greg Rohlf of Winged Foot will meet Marc Issler of Pine Barrens (N.J.) in the finals of the 105th Met Amateur Championship at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, New York. The 42-year-old Rohlf is looking to win his third MGA title, and the second at his former home course. His opponent in the finals, the 21-year-old Issler, is looking for his first MGA victory. The 36-hole final will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the second 18 holes scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (August 3, 2007) – A thrilling 22-hole quarterfinal match capped an action-packed Friday at the 105th Met Amateur Championship at Wykagyl Country Club. Kevin Foley of Neshanic Valley (N.J.) outlasted 14-year-old Cameron Wilson of Shorehaven (Conn.) in a match that went four extra holes. Foley, runner-up in last year’s Met Amateur at Baltusrol, is a sophomore at Penn State and was the Big 10 Freshman of the Year in 2007.

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (August 2, 2007) – Mark Issler of Pine Barrens (N.J.) was the only player in the Met Amateur field to put together two rounds in the 60’s, shooting 66-69, including 14 birdies over 36 holes, to claim medalist honors at nine-under 135 during stroke-play qualifying in the 105th Met Amateur Championship at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, N.Y. The 21-year-old Issler leads an extraordinary group of talented players into match play in the second oldest regional amateur championship in the country.

The 17-year-old followed up his even-par morning round on the Upper Course with a four-under 68 on the Lower Course to win the 5th Carter Cup-MGA Junior Stroke Play Championship by three strokes over Cameron Wilson of Rowayton, Conn.
