RYE, N.Y. (December 6, 2007) – The Metropolitan Golf Association elected its slate of 2008 officers at the Association’s 110th Annual Meeting, held on Wednesday, December 5 at Westchester Country Club. Leslie A. Schupak of Metropolis Country Club was elected to a second one-year term as President of the MGA. Mr. Schupak served as the Association’s 58th President in 2007. Mr. Schupak will head a 22-member Executive Committee as well as serve as Chairman of the Association’s charitable Foundation.

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (December 6, 2007) - Jim McGovern, who won the 1987 Met Open as an amateur and then won the Met Amateur the following year, finished tied for 19th at PGA Tour Q-School this year and will be fully exempt Tour in 2008. McGovern, who turns 43 in February, won the 1993 Shell Houston Open, but since 2000 has played most of his tournaments on the Nationwide Tour. The native of Oradell, New Jersey, took a few minutes to speak with the MGA regarding his recent accomplishment:

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (December 6, 2007) – George J. Zahringer III of Deepdale Golf Club (Manhasset, N.Y.), a fixture of amateur golf in the Met Area for more than 30 years, added yet another chapter to the MGA record books by winning the 2007 Jerry Courville Sr. MGA Player of the Year Award. This is the 10th player of the year title for Zahringer, breaking his own record of nine established in 2001. The award was presented at the 110th MGA Annual Meeting and Dinner on Wednesday, December 5 at Westchester Country Club in Rye, New York.

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (November 12, 2007) - Five Met Area players advanced to the second stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying School. Leading the way are two former Met Open champions, Andrew Svoboda of Winged Foot and John Stoltz of The Concord. They will be joined by former Ike champion Brad Tilley of Sleepy Hollow andTyler Hall of Packanack when the second stage begins on November 14 at one of six sites across the country.

(October 31, 2007) - With the “official” golf season coming to an end in the Metropolitan area, it is important to know what scores (if any) played in the winter months are eligible to be posted for handicap purposes. Those who play well in the winter months tend to believe that their scores should not be posted for handicap purposes. Sometimes they even point to the fact that they have forgotten some of the important details about their score – like the actual score – to justify not posting.
