MGA Foundation Helps Build Putting Green for Veterans

BRONX, N.Y.-The Metropolitan Golf Association Foundation has partnered with the Charles N. Bajart Jr. American Legion Post of Yonkers,  NY to construct an indoor putting green for the residents of the Bronx VA Medical Center at 130 West Kingsbridge Road in the Bronx.   The green was constructed by Michael Lehrer of Home Green Advantage and officially opened for play on Friday, February 21st.

MGA Says Goodbye to a Great Friend of Golf: Gerald T. Mahoney Dies at 79

The Metropolitan Golf Association is deeply saddened to announce the passing of one of the Met Area’s greatest ambassadors of golf, and its 2001 Distinguished Service Award winner, Gerald T. Mahoney.  Mr. Mahoney died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, January 30 at  a long-term care facility in his native Yonkers where he had been living since suffering a serious stroke early in 2001.

Paul R. DIllon Re-Elected Preident of the MGA

ELMSFORD, N.Y.-Paul R. Dillon of Mamaroneck, New York, was elected to a second one-year term as President of the Metropolitan Golf Association at the MGA’s Annual Meeting on Wednesday, December 3rd at the Westchester Country Club.  Dillon, a member of the Winged Foot Golf Club, is the Association’s 56th President, and will head a 22-member Executive Committee, as well as serve as Chairman of the Association’s charitable Foundation.

RUMSON, N.J.--After two long days of tournament tough golf, the 34th MGA/MetLife Boys Championship came to an end with 15-year-old Michael Quagliano of White Plains, NY, crowned the 2002 Champion and Ryan Shallcross of Westfield, New Jersey, the runner-up.  Today’s Boys Championship was sponsored by MetLife for the 18th consecutive year.

Baldwin Captures British Senior Amateur Championship

ELMSFORD, N.Y.--Two-time Met Amateur champ and former MGA President, John Baldwin, recorded what may have been his biggest win in an already remarkable amateur career, by capturing the 2002 British Senior “Open” Amateur Championship at the historic Woodhall Spa in England on August 7-9 (The term “Open” is used since the event is open to amateur golfers outside of the British Golfing Union).

Elmsford, N.Y.--Cornelius E. “Connie” DeLoca of Franklin Lakes, NJ, was elected to a second one-year term as president of the Metropolitan Golf Association at the Association’s 104th Annual Meeting on Wednesday, December 5th, at the Westchester Country Club in Harrison, NY.  Mr. DeLoca, the Association’s 55th president, will head a 21-member Executive Committee comprised of three officers, 11 regular members, three special members and three ex-officio members.

Elmsford, N.Y.--Due to the tragic circumstances today at the World Trade Center, the following sectional qualifying rounds have been rescheduled as follows:
