Gene Westmoreland Elected President of the IAGA

ELMSFORD, NY….MGA Tournament Director/Assistant Executive Director Gene Westmoreland was elected president of the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA) for 2002 during the 35th IAGA Annual Meeting held November 11-14, 2001 in Scottsdale, Arizona. He becomes the first person in IAGA history to hold the position of president while maintaining associate membership status.

Enterprise Group of Funds will award two $2,500 college scholarships to qualified high school students in the greater metropolitan New York area. There will be one award to a male and one to a female.

MGA Team Ready to Head to Portmarnock for 2001 Carey Cup

The Metropolitan Golf Association has announced the members of their eight-man amateur team which will compete in the 4th Governor Hugh L. Carey Cup Matches on the old course at the Portmarnock Golf Club in Portmarnock, Ireland (just north of Dublin) on May 7-9.

The competition will consist of Four-ball, Foursome and Singles matches on May 8th and 9th, preceded by an “Am-Am” tournament on May 7th.

West Orange, N.J.--Former Champion Michael McBride and son Michael Jr. of Arcola CC teamed up and shot a 3-under par 68 to capture the 51st MGA Father & Son (Gross) Championship today at Essex County Country Club in West Orange, NJ.  McBride’s first Father and Son title was in 1970 with his father Joseph, the 1949 Met Amateur Champion, who had also claimed 3 other Father and Son titles in ’64, ’65, and ’66 with son, Terry.

April 29, 2001--The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association held its 8th Annual Scholar/Athlete Luncheon at Pines Manor in Edison, NJ in which representatives from 322 schools received continuing education scholarships.  The Metropolitan Golf Association Foundation contributes two $250.00 scholarships to one male and one female each year as part of the scholar athlete program.  The recipients for this year’s MGA Foundation scholarship were Deborah Komorowski of Bogota High School, and Aditya Dighe of Woodbridge High School.  To honor and recognize o
