ELMSFORD, N.Y.--William P. “Willie” Turnesa of Elmsford, NY and Knollwood Country Club, passed away on June 16th the age of 87 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
ELMSFORD, NY --- Payne Stewart and Dolores Hope will be honored at the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association’s 50th National Awards Dinner on June 19, 2001 at the Hyatt Regency in Greenwich, Connecticut. Stewart is the 2001 recipient of the Gold Tee Award, the Met Golf Writers’ highest honor “for career achievements which exemplify the best spirit and traditions of the sport of golf.” Payne’s 15-year old daughter, Chelsea, will accept the award along with friend Paul Azinger.

CONVENT STATION, N.J.--Glen Cove Women's team of former "Met Net" Champions Dawn McKeown and Mary McMahon again proved to be a complementary match as they teamed up to shoot a 10-under par 63 and capture the 17th MGA/MetLife Women's Net Team Championship today at Morris County Golf Club in Convent Station, NJ.
FAR HILLS, N.J.--Ticket requests for the 2002 U.S. Open golf championship at Bethpage State Park (Black Course) in Farmingdale, N.Y., will be accepted by mail order or via the USGA Website at www.usga.org from June 18 through July 31, 2001, according to the United States Golf Association. The Championship is scheduled from June 13-16, 2002.
Minnesota--Although both the men’s and women’s home teams from the state of Minnesota won the their respective 2001 USGA State Team Championship, a host of Met Area golfers made strong showings both in the team and individual competition.

Woodbury, N.Y.--Playing in his first MGA/MetLife Public Links Championship, 18-year old Martin Catalioto of Bergen Community GC played like a seasoned veteran firing a two-under par total of 138 (70-68) to earn his first victory in the event today at Oyster Bay Golf Course in Woodbury, NY.
