First Tee Scholars Join Media at CA Championship

BRONX, N.Y. (March 27, 2008) - Philip Spano, an Ace level student in The First Tee of Metropolitan New York program at Mosholu Golf Course in the Bronx, N.Y., and a Class of 2009 First Tee Scholar, was one of three students nationwide chosen to attend last week’s WGC-CA Championship as an on-course reporter.

(April 3, 2008) - On Sunday, April 27th NBC weathercaster SallyAnn Mosey will broadcast her weekend weather show from Mosholu Golf Course in The Bronx, N.Y., home of The First Tee of Metropolitan New York. The show is done live from 6:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. and will feature four, two-minute spots highlighting First Tee programming initiatives in place at five Metropolitan Area sites. The interviews are scheduled for 6:12 a.m., 6:32 AM, 7:12 a.m. and 7:32 a.m.

(March 11, 2008) - Charlie Sifford, the first African-American to play the PGA Tour and the first black golfer to be enshrined at the World Golf Hall of Fame, will be recognized for his pioneering career achievements by the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association at their 57th National Awards Dinner on Monday, June 23, 2008 at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, New York. Sifford will receive the Gold Tee Award, the MGWA’s highest honor.

MGA to Allow Measuring Devices in Competition

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (March 5, 2008) - The Metropolitan Golf Association has elected to allow the use of electronic distance-measuring devices in its competitions for 2008. Players will be permitted to use measuring devices that provide information on distance only. The MGA is joined by the Westchester, Long Island and New Jersey State Golf Associations in adopting this Local Rule for selected events.
