Fairfield, Conn. – Sukjin-Lee Wuesthoff came back from a five-hole deficit to defeat defending champion In-Bee Park, 1 up, and capture the 55th U.S. Girls' Junior Championship. Wuesthoff, 16, of Toms River, N.J., rallied after bogeys on three of the first four holes to post 12 consecutive pars and draw even with Park, 15, of Eustis, Fla., with two holes to play. She then took the lead for good with a decisive birdie at the 17th hole, before closing out Park with a par at 18 at the 6,303 yard, par-71 Brooklawn Country Club.

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J.-Sukjin-Lee Wuesthoff of Toms River, N.J. advanced to the second round of match play at the 2003 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship at Brooklawn Country Club, in Fairfield, CT.   Wuesthoff reached the second round with a 5 and 4 victory over Sara Hurwitch of Potomac Falls, VA.  She faces Songyi Yi of San Diego, CA in today’s second round match.

Baldwin Competes in 2003 British Senior Open Championship

AYRSHIRE, SCOTLAND-John C. Baldwin of Meadow Brook, in Jericho, NY shot a 3-over-par 73 (35 – 38) in the opening round of the Senior British Open Championship at The Westin Turnberry Resort in Ayrshire, Scotland.  Baldwin earned his exemption into the championship with his victory in the 2002 British Seniors Open Amateur Championship.  His start puts him in a tie for 65th place, seven strokes behind leader Tom Watson.  He is also the second low amateur, one stroke behind Arthur Pierse of Tipperary, Ireland.

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J.-Nick Desai of Hominy Hill, in Colts Neck, NJ survived yesterday’s first round of match play at the 2003 U.S. Public Links Championship at Blue Heron Pines GC, in Galloway Township, NJ.   He advanced to the second round with a 2 & 1 victory over John Ellis, from San Jose California.  Desai earned one of the last spots in the two-round on-site qualifying with his 151 (75 – 76), which tied him for 53rd. Desai faces Lenny Park, from Tempe, Arizona in today’s second round match.

RYE, N.Y.-After day one sixteen juniors survived rounds one and two of the 86th MGA Junior Championship. The first round of this year's Championship was especially competitive with seven matches going into extra holes, including a first-round match that lasted 21 holes won by Tyler Kupper of Weston, CT, over John Labiak, of Simthtown, NY.  Of the original nine exempt from the four sectional qualifying rounds held in the Met Area, only three will return tomorrow for another opportunity to advance.
