Montclair Team Captures 28th MGA/MetLife Men's Net Team Championship
Plandome, NY- The Montclair Golf Club team of Donald Kane and Frank Ferrari, a duo that have been playing team golf for some twenty years, put their collective experience together to fire an impressive 58 (29-29) to capture the 2004 MGA/MetLife Men's Net Team Championship at Plandome CC in Plandome, NY. Kane, an 18 handicap and Ferrari who plays to a 5, kept the game plan simple in defeating Saxony’s Greg Horgan and James Walsh and Esquire’s Brian Flood and Robert Wagenstein by a singe stroke.
“We really kept the ball in play for the most part, which led to natural birdies,” Kane said. “Basically, we really ham and egged it well.”
This is the first time that a team from Montclair has captured the team championship in the event’s 28-year history.
The second place tie between Saxony and Esquire was decided on a match of cards, after both carded 59’s. However, a back nine 28 earned Saxony’s Horgan and Walsh solo second place.
This year with the support of MetLife, more than 2,000 teams competed at the club level for the right to advance to the three sectional qualifying rounds which produced the 46 teams that competed today in this 18-hole stroke play, net better-ball, with players competing at 90% of their course handicap.
