Wuesthoff Advances at 2003 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship
GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J.-Sukjin-Lee Wuesthoff of Toms River, N.J. advanced to the second round of match play at the 2003 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship at Brooklawn Country Club, in Fairfield, CT. Wuesthoff reached the second round with a 5 and 4 victory over Sara Hurwitch of Potomac Falls, VA. She faces Songyi Yi of San Diego, CA in today’s second round match.
Sixty-four players shot 160 or better to reach the match play portion of the event. Wuesthoff finished t-2nd at one-under-par 141 (72-76), tied with thirteen-year-old phenom, Michelle Wie, of Honolulu Hawaii.
Also qualifying were Megan Grehan, of Mamaroneck, NY, who finished t-46th at 16-over-par 158 (80 – 78) and Jenna Winokur of Wall Township, NJ who finished t-56th at 17-over-par 159 (82 – 77). Grehan lost 3 and 2 to Naree Song Wonglukiet of Korea and Winokur lost 3 and 1 to Paula Creamer of Pleasanton, CA in the first round of match play.
