Winged Foot to Host 3rd "Carter Cup" MGA Junior Stroke Play Invitational Championship
It is with deep regret that the MGA must note the passing of former President John F. Kelsey Jr. on Friday, August 27, 2004. Mr. Kelsey was 80 years old and served as MGA President in 1989 and 1990.
As part of its ongoing series of junior initiatives, the MGA Foundation conducted a junior golf clinic at Winged Foot Golf Club on Thursday, August 19th. The clinic was sponsored by MetLife, which has a long history of supporting MGA Junior programs.

Great Neck, NY - Larry and Lawrence Martinez of Mansion Ridge, teamed up to shoot a net 15-under-par 55 to capture the 2004 MGA Father & Son (Net) Championship today at Lake Success Country Club in Great Neck, NY.
The team headed a field of 180 Father and Son duos and beat a group of 4 teams by a seven shot margin. Glen and Ryan Zachary of Island Hills, Greg and Jerry Schramm of Port Jefferson, Walter and Walter James Taormina of Knoll CC East and Harvey and William Ely of Lake Mohawk all fired rounds of 62 to tie for second.
West Orange, NJ- Brian Boyd of Spring Brook and Stephen Boyd of Baltusrol teamed up to shoot a one-under-par 70 (37 – 33) to capture the 2004 MGA Father & Son Championship today at Essex County Country Club in West Orange, NJ. The Boyd’s tied for 3rd at last year’s Championship at Wee Burn Country Club.
Charles and Charles Jr. Hutchinson of Canoe Brook won the net division by firing a net six-under-par 65 (71 – 6). The Hutchinson team edged out Douglas and Paul Markey of Redding and the gross champion Boyds who shot net 66s.

The finalists from last year’s U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship both moved to the quarterfinals with solid victories in the third round.
