WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (August 8, 2011) -- Five years ago, Ellen Gyapong couldn’t have told you the meaning of the word “golf,” because five years ago, Ellen Gyapong wasn’t even in this country. Originally from the west African nation of Ghana, Gyapong now resides in White Plains, N.Y., is an avid golfer, and has been a participant in the MGA’s GOLFWORKS student intern program at Metropolis Country Club in White Plains since 2009.

(August 4, 2011) – The 2011 MGA Williamson Cup team has been selected and will compete in 48th edition of the Williamson Cup Matches, which will be held on Monday, August 8th at Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, Md. This year’s team will consist of four very accomplished junior golfers, including Clancy Waugh of New York, N.Y., Anthony Alex of Wayne, N.J., Kyle Brey of Farmingdale, N.Y. and Cody Gross of Babylon, N.Y.

SPRINGFIELD, N.J. (August 3, 2011) – Theo Humphrey of Greenwich, Conn., raced to the first-round lead of the 9th Carter Cup at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J., with a three-under-par 69. Humphrey, 15, played consistent golf for the first 15 holes and accentuated his round by holing out for eagle on the par-4 16th from 143 yards, and followed that up with a birdie on the par-5 17th.

FAR HILLS, N.J. (July 27, 2011) – An enthusiastic group of more than 60 young golfers arrived at the USGA Golf House in Far Hills, N.J. on Wednesday, July 27, to participate in the year’s second MGA/MetLife Youth Clinic. The juniors, representing New Jersey-based First Tee programs at Plainfield West, Weequahic Park, and Raritan Valley, all enjoyed a day of golf history and games at the USGA headquarters.

WEST ORANGE, N.J. (July 27, 2011) -- The MGA Foundation’s cornerstone internship program, GOLFWORKS, provides meaningful summer working experiences at Met Area clubs to more than 200 deserving high school students each year. Now in its 17th year, the success of the GOLFWORKS program can be attributed to the willingness of MGA member clubs to hire 15-, 16-, and 17-year-old youngsters, many of whom are experiencing their first jobs.

These fun days of friendly competition feature numerous types of golf skills contests that are designed for amateur players of all skill levels.
