(May 15, 2006) – Michelle Wie was the medalist today at U.S. Open Local Qualifying at the Turtle Bay Resort’s Palmer Course in Oahu, Hawaii. She shot an even-par 72 to lead the field of 40 amateurs and professionals and will move on to Sectional Qualifying at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, N.J. on Monday, June 5th.  Wie becomes the first woman to make it to Sectional Qualifying for the U.S. Open.

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (April 13, 2006) — Phil Mickelson, fresh off his two-stroke victory at The Masters, will return to the Met Area to be recognized for his outstanding career achievements by the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association at their 55th National Awards dinner on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at the Hilton Rye Town in Rye Brook, New York.  Mickelson will receive the Gold Tee Award, the MGWA’s highest honor.  The following week, Mickelson will compete in the U.S.

BROUSSARD, La. (March 26, 2006). Three days after his 26th birthday, Johnson Wagner gave himself the best present of all as he captured his first Nationwide Tour win at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open. The former Met Area star shot a final-round 67 and sank an eight-foot birdie putt on the last hole for a one-stroke win over Chad Collins.

The 2006 MGA Foundation Spring Educational Series has concluded one of its most successful seasons ever, following a month-long program of educational forums. These programs are designed to educate club leaders and the golfing public about a wide range of topics of interest to Met Area golfers including Rules, handicapping procedures, new technology, and MGA and MGA Foundation services and programs. The MGA also participated in three highly successful Met Area golf shows. A brief review of these programs follows.
