TOUR UPDATE
ELMSFORD, N.Y. (March 28, 2006) - In addition to Johnson Wagner’s success, several other Met Area players have already begun to make their mark. On the Duramed Futures Tour, Meaghan Francella, of Port Chester, N.Y., fired a final round 70 en route to a seven-under par score of 209 and a win at the Lakeland Duramed Futures Classic held March 10-12 at the Cleveland Heights Golf Course in Lakeland, Florida. After a disappointing final round 79 at the LPGA’s Q-School in December, Francella bounced back to capture her first professional win since taking the 2004 Women’s Met Open. The victory vaults Francella into first place on the 2006 Futures Tour money list with $10, 399.00.
Heather Daly-D’Onofrio, a well respected member of the LPGA Tour from Connecticut, received the William and Mousie Powell Award in December. The award is voted on by her peers, and honors the LPGA professional who, through her behavior and deeds, best exemplifies the spirit, ideals and values of the LPGA. Daly-D’Onofrio also completed her term as LPGA Tour President late last year.
On the PGA Tour, J.J. Henry contended strongly and finished in 2nd place at February’s FBR Open in Scottsdale, Ariz. Henry also finished tied for 23rd at the Nissan Open, held at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Henry currently sits in 52nd place on the money list with $401,305.00.
In other news, several Met area players have done well in the winter and spring legs of the Grey Goose Gateway Tour in Florida. Mill River’s Nick Cook, who finished 5th in last year’s Met Open, won the year’s first event and currently sits in 6th place on the Grey Goose money list with $31,268.75. Brian Lamberti, of Nevele Grand Resort & Country Club, sits in 9th place on the same money list with $27,690.00.
With most of the 2006 season still in front of them, these players should provide some exciting moments this summer. Log on to www.mgagolf.org to follow your favorite Met Area players as they compete throughout the season.
