The MGA Foundation is in full swing for 2008 with a Spring full of activity and exciting events and programs.
ELMSFORD, N.Y. (May 19, 2008) - The road to the 2008 U.S. Open Championship at Torrey Pines in San Diego, Calif., began in early May when the MGA conducted four local qualifying rounds throughout the Met Area. More than 350 local and national players attempted to advance to the sectional qualifying stage, including a number of prominent professional and amateur Met Area players. Among the 27 qualifiers were five former Met Open champions, one former MGA/MetLife Public Links champion and one former Carter Cup-MGA Junior Stroke Play champion.

DARIEN, Conn. (May 6, 2008) – On a day when swirling winds made for very difficult scoring conditions, 2005 Met Amateur champion and first-round leader Ron Vannelli of Metuchen Golf & Country Club (N.J.) captured a one-stroke victory in the 81st MGA Senior Amateur Championship at Wee Burn Country Club.

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (April 24, 2008) – More than 500 youngsters participated in the MGA Foundation’s annual Caddie Academies at nine Met Area clubs from April 7 through April 23, 2008. The MGA is one of the country’s leading golf associations in its efforts to promote caddies as a vital part of the golf experience, and takes pride in the continued education of young men and women on the health and social benefits of this great tradition.
BAYONNE, N.J. (April 16, 2008) – The Metropolitan Golf Association held its annual Media Day on April 16 at Bayonne Golf Club in Bayonne, N.J. The day featured a preview of the 2008 MGA championship line-up and press conference that was attended by 30 members of the local media. Following the press conference the attendees were able to experience firsthand the spectacular and challenging Bayonne golf course. Bayonne GC will host the second annual MGA Mid-Amateur Championship in October.

(April 10, 2007) - The Met PGA honored its 2007 award winners on Tuesday, April 15, at the 46th Annual Metropolitan PGA Educational Forum at the Westchester Broadway Theatre in Elmsford, N.Y. Sponsored by Callaway Golf, the forum included the presentation of the Met PGA’s major awards and presentations by renowned golf instructors Mike Bennett and Andy Plummer and golf psychologist Dr. Richard Coop.
