Local First Tee Students Selected to Alliance Youth Network

May 6, 2009 — Four students from The First Tee of Metropolitan New York (TFTMNY) were named as ambassadors to the Alliance Youth Network, a branch of America’s Promise Alliance. The students ― Andre Dews, Stephen Fetko, Sumit Khetan, and Joe Lee ― were chosen for their leadership skills and their stated goal to promote learning in their communities.

Gene Westmoreland will be at the helm as the non-playing captain of the six-man amateur team representing the Metropolitan Golf Association at the 8th Governor Hugh L. Carey Challenge Cup, a Walker Cup-style competition against the Golfing Union of Ireland.

Jay Mottola Honored with USGA Ike Grainger Award

April 28, 2009 — MGA Executive Director Jay Mottola was honored with the USGA Ike Grainger Award in recognition of his more than 25 years of volunteer service to the USGA. The award was presented by USGA Executive Director David Fay at the MGA Tournament Officials Seminar on April 27 at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, N.J.  The award is named for Isaac B.

The 2009 MGA Foundation Spring Educational Series has concluded one of its most successful seasons ever, following a month-long program of educational forums. These programs are open to the public and are designed to educate club leaders and the golfing public about a wide range of topics of interest to Met Area golfers, including the Rules of Golf, handicapping procedures, new technology and MGA and MGA Foundation services and programs. The MGA also participated in the highly successful Lower Hudson Valley Golf Show.
