Fleming Falls in the Round of 16 at U.S. Women's Mid-Amatuer
UPDATED: October 10, 8:00 a.m - Tara Fleming's run at the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur came to an end on Tuesday as she lost her match in the Round of 16. Fleming was defeated by Andra Kraus of Baltimore, Md., 3 & 1, elminating her from the field. UPDATED: October 9, 2:00 p.m - Tara Fleming of Jersey City, N.J., won her Round of 32 match this morning at the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship at Briggs Ranch in San Antonio, Texas. Fleming had a relatively easy time defeating Jordan Craig of Connellsville, Pa. Fleming, a member of Bayonne Golf Club, took a 1-up lead over Craig on the par-5 7th hole and never trailed again, cruising to a 4 & 3 victory. The 45-year-old will play this afternoon in the Round of 16 against Andrea Kraus of Baltimore, Md. That match begins at 2:15 p.m. (CDT), and live scoring is available by clicking here.

UPDATED: October 8, 5:00 p.m - Tara Fleming won her match in the Round of 64 2 & 1 today at the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship at Briggs Ranch in San Antonio, Texas. Fleming led the match throughout the 17 holes played, never letting Julie Massa take the lead. Fleming, 45, will play in the Round of 32 matches on Tuesday morning. Daria Cummings fell to her opponent 5 & 4 in her match play, just not getting the momentum she needed to win.
Fleming will take on Jordan Craig of Connellsville, Pa., at 9:54 a.m. (CDT) on Tuesday.

UPDATED: October 8, 10:00 a.m. - Frances Gacos was eliminated in an 8-woman playoff for five remaining spots in the match play bracket. Cummings and Fleming, the only two remaining from the Met Area, will play in the Round of 64 matches Monday. Cummings tees off against Andrea Kraus of Baltimore, Md. at 11:24 a.m. (CDT) and Fleming is right behind her, taking on Julie Massa of Holt, Mich. at 11:33 a.m.

UPDATED: October 7, 9:00 p.m. - Daria Cummings (13-over) and Tara Fleming (16-over) advanced through two rounds of stroke play qualifying to make the cut for match play at the U.S Women's Mid-Amateur. Frances Gacos finished at 17-over and is one of eight women who will tee off in a playoff for the remaining five spots early on Monday morning before the first match of the day.

UPDATED: October 6, 7:30 p.m. - After the first round of stroke play qualifying at the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur, Tara Fleming is leading the group from the Met Area with a score of 3-over 75, positioning her at T21. Daria Cummings is one stroke behind her at 4-over, and Frances Gacos is 7-over. Brooke Cooper and Debbie Johnson will need to make moves during Sunday's round, as Cooper is 11-over and Johnson is 17-over. The field will be cut down to the low 64 after the second round of stroke play on Sunday.

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (Oct. 5, 2012) - On October 6, five Met Area women will tee off in the first round of stroke play qualifying in the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas. The Mid-Amateur, designed for players 25-years-old and older, looks to have a very competitive field of 132 talented players who will try and survive the 36-hole cut to advance to match play.
Leading the field of local ladies is Frances Gacos of Flemington, N.J., who recently advanced to the Round of 32 at the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur in Hershey, Pa. Gacos qualified for the event at a sectional qualifier at the Rock Spring Club in West Orange, N.J., along with Tara Fleming of Jersey City, N.J., and Brooke Cooper of New York, N.Y.

At a sectional qualifying round in Wilmington, Del., Debbie Johnson of Stamford, Conn., and Daria Cummings of Monroe, Conn., -- both qualified for the Mid-Am in 2010 -- earned spots in the championship’s final field. Cummings is a two-time winner of the MGA/WMGA Public Links Championship, and she was the runner-up at this year’s event in July at Flanders Valley. This will be her sixth time playing in the U.S. Women’s Mid-Am.
This is the first time that Briggs Ranch will host a national championship, and the Tom Fazio designed course has grown in popularity since it’s opening in 2002 to become a top Texas track.
