The MGA Foundation is setting up for a full schedule as they forward to a promising 2021. Through multiple charitable initiatives, namely the GOLFWORKS program, the MGA Foundation impacts hundreds of lives every year through golf. The MGA Foundation Day of Golf kicks things off in early May, but the schedule is full of incredible events, fantastic courses and worthy causes all through the summer months. Preview what to look forward to this summer on the Foundation calendar.
MGA Foundation Day of Golf: May 10, 2021
One of the biggest dates on the calendar will be here before you know it, as the 2021 MGA Foundation Day of Golf will head to Somerset Hills Country Club on May, 10th. Last season, the event was held in September, but this season it is one of the first marked dates on the calendar. The Day of Golf directly supports the Foundation’s GOLFWORKS program. The program places interns in seasonal jobs at participating MGA clubs. The auction will once again be held online, with proceeds from both events going towards initiatives that impact thousands of kids every year. Last season the auction raised nearly $60,000. Somerset Hills was founded in 1899 and is consistently listed as one of the top 100 courses in the country. The course is well known for its outstanding array of par threes. Somerset Hills has hosted many MGA Majors, most recently the 14th Annual MGA Mid-Am in 2020.
MGA Caddie Scholarship Pro-Am: August 23, 2021
Hudson National takes center stage for the 2021 MGA Caddie Scholarship Pro-Am, the day before it is set to host the Met Open. For over 50 years, the Caddie Pro-Am has been a fixture of the Met Open, raising money for the local Caddie Scholarship Funds of Long Island, New Jersey and Westchester. The event often sees alumni of the respective caddie scholarship funds come back and play.
JUNIOR COMPETITIONS
104th Met Junior Championship Sponsored by MetLife: July 12-14, 2021
One of the longest held events on the MGA Schedule, the 104th Met Junior will take place at the Tuxedo Club in 2021. It will be the first time in the history of the Championship that the Tuxedo Club will host. The Club has a challenging and scenic course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. It officially opened in 1957.
53rd MGA/MetLife Boys Championship: July 22-23, 2021
Gardiner’s Bay Country Club will play host to the Boys Championship for the 13th time. The course was introduced to the rotation in 1985 and has hosted the event every third year since. Located on Shelter Island, Garinder’s Bay offers stunning vistas of the Bay and Atlantic Ocean.
19th Carter Cup: July 27, 2021
Baltusrol, a course that needs no introduction, will reprise its role as host of the Carter Cup for the 19th consecutive year. It is the MGA’s Junior Stroke Play Championship and will be held over 36-holes on the Upper and Lower courses at Baltusrol. Baltusrol routinely finds itself inside the top 50 on Golf Digest’s Top 100 list.
57th Williamson Cup: August 8-9, 2021
After not being played last season due to COVID-19, the Williamson Cup will be back in 2021 at the Country Club of Buffalo. Ten Golf Associations on the East Coast will send participants to the tournament to compete in the two-day junior event. The MGA will be looking for a record-tying 12th Williamson Cup with a win in 2021. 2015 marked the last time the MGA took home the Cup.
