Ito, Wall set morning pace at 14th Carter Cup
MAMARONECK, N.Y. (August 3, 2016) - Brent Ito of Ardsley, N.Y., and Jack Wall of Brielle, N.J., have set the morning mark at the 14th Carter Cup at Winged Foot Golf Club with matching scores of 1-over 71. The opening round took place on the East Course, and with 10 players within three shots of the lead, many competitors are still in the running for the title as play turns to the West Course for this afternoon's final round.
Five competitors sit just one shot back, including recent Boys champion Nathan Han of Somers, N.Y., and 2016 Met Junior runner-up Max Theodorakis of Danbury, Conn. Also in the pack are Johnny Bush of Cranford, N.J., Gerry Mackedon of South Setauket, N.Y., and Sean Taylor of Westfield, N.J.
John Pak of Scotch Plains, N.J., who is coming off a semifinal run in the U.S. Junior Amateur, is just two shots back following a 3-over 73. Eric Ganshaw of Greenwich, Conn., also carded a 73 in round one.
A trio at 4-over are also within striking distance, led by 2016 Met Junior champion Christian Cavaliere of Katonah, N.Y. Ethan Ng of New York City and Reid Bedell of Fair Haven, N.J., also carded 74s to begin the championship.
Wall had the steadier of the two 71s, tallying birdie-threes on Nos. 5 and 7 while spreading three bogies throughout his opening 18. Ito had four birdies in the morning, including one on the par-4 18th to match Wall.
The final round is already underway, featuring live hole-by-hole scoring for all competitors.
