Glen Cove Wins MGA/MetLife Women's Four-Ball

FLORAL PARK, N.Y.  (October 2, 2014) – It was an exciting finish at the 30th MGA/MetLife Women’s Four-Ball Championship at Towers Country Club as three teams found themselves in a playoff to determine the champions. After sinking a 32-foot putt on the first playoff hole, Susan Canarick and Janet Mazza of the Glen Cove Women’s 18 Holers claimed first place. Canarick and Mazza had a dramatic finish on their final hole of regular play and chipped in for a net 63 to send them to the playoff.

Also in the playoff were Erica Beasley and Jacki Torsoe of Hollow Brook and Eileen McKee and Loretta Postiglione of Silver Lake, who also shot net scores of 7-under 63. After the playoff, Hollow Brook took second place while Silver Lake finished third.

Towers Country Club played to a par 70 at 4,970 yards for the 35 two-woman teams in cold and windy conditions today.

Entry into the MGA/MetLife Women's Four-Ball Championship requires qualifying on the club level before teams can participate in one of the MGA's Sectional Qualifying Rounds. The competition is a two-woman team event, and each player must have an active USGA Handicap Index that does not exceed 28.0 at the time the team attempts to qualify at the club level, and the combined Handicap Index of the team may not exceed 48.0. The format of play at the club qualifying, sectional qualifying and championship levels is 18 holes of stroke-play on a net better-ball basis.

The MGA announced this spring the re-branding of the event, previously known as the MGA/MetLife Women’s Net Team Championship. For 30 years, this popular event has provided scratch golfers and high-handicappers alike with a first-class championship experience. The MGA/MetLife Women’s Four-Ball Championship still focuses on players of all skill levels, and the events are now conducted by the MGA’s charitable Foundation.
