13 Locals in the Field at the National PGA Assistants Championship
ELMSFORD, N.Y. (October 29, 2013) - Thirteen assistant professionals from the Met Area are competing this week at the 2013 National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The 72-hole stroke play competition will run from Oct. 31 to Nov. 3 and includes 126 of the top assistants from around the country.
The winner of the championship will receive a spot in the 2014 PGA Professional National Championship next June in Myrtle Beach, S.C., in addition to the $9,000 first place check. A cut of the low 70 plus ties will be made after 36 holes.
Headlining the list of locals is 2010 and 2011 winner Frank Bensel of Jupiter, Fla. Bensel, an assistant at Century Country Club, won the Met Open in 2009 and finished T17 this year. Greg Bisconti of South Salem, N.Y., an assistant at Saint Andrew's Club, is also in the field. This year marks Bisconti's eighth start in the championship, which was documented by PGA.com.
