Wilson Holds Narrow Player of the Year Lead

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (October 3, 2013) - With only two tournaments left that have MGA Player of the Year points on the line, it's looking like a two-man race to decide this year's Jerry Courville Sr. Award winner. It's also one of the closest races in recent years.

Pat Wilson of Panther Valley and Max Buckley of Westchester have separated themselves from the rest of the pack in the Polo Golf points standings.

RELATED: Full Player of the Year Standings

Wilson, who captured the Met Amateur at Stanwich, has accumulated 820 points from 10 events. His latest third place finish at the Boff Invitational (60 points) was crucial in giving himself a slight cushion.

But Buckley, winner of three events this summer, is right on Wilson's heels with 760 points.

The final event in which both players are eligible to receive points is the Nassau Invitational (Oct. 4-6). The last time the race came down to the Nassau was in 2010 when Joe Saladino trailed Evan Beirne by 21 points heading into the event. Saladino ended up winning it, earning 75 points and his second consecutive Player of the Year title.
