MGA Foundation Director
JOB DESCRIPTION
The MGA is searching for an experienced professional for the senior level position of MGA Foundation Director. The Foundation Director will provide vision and leadership in managing the operations of the MGA Foundation. This position would include a strong focus on fundraising activities and cultivating relationships with sponsors, donors and supporters within the golf community. The position also includes overseeing general operation of the Foundation’s existing programs (The First Tee of Metropolitan New York, GOLFWORKS, Caddie Academies, Educational Forums, and Junior Competitions and Clinics), and development and expansion of new programs and services. The Foundation Director will report directly to the MGA Executive Director and the MGA Foundation Board of Directors.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with the Executive Director of the MGA to develop an annual budget and strategic business plan for the Foundation and develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy.
- Monitor the finances of the Foundation and First Tee of Metropolitan N.Y. and report regularly to the MGA and MGA Foundation Boards on the status of the Foundation operations and finances.
- Actively work to establish contacts and business relationships beneficial to the Foundation, with the goal of expanding support through sponsorships, fundraising events and grants, and expanding the Foundation donor base.
- Manage business relationships and monitor all contracts and agreements to which the Foundation is a party.
- Oversee Foundation support staff and manage daily operations of the Foundation, including, but not limited to, the following: administration of GOLFWORKS student intern program, caddie academies, educational programs, junior competitions, MGA/MetLife junior clinics, First Tee Met N.Y. activities and MGA Foundation Day of Golf.
- Work with MGA communications and marketing staff in coordinating all publicity, publications, press releases, articles and other printed or online material related to MGA Foundation activities.
- Oversee and monitor Foundation content of the MGA Web site, www.mgagolf.org.
- Handle and perform special projects and other duties as may be assigned by the MGA Executive Director or the Foundation Board of Directors.
- Oversee the implementation of Foundation goals to achieve financial growth and stability and continue to maintain and enhance a standard of excellence in all of its programs and services.

To perform the job successfully the MGA Foundation Director must demonstrate: Ability to adhere to time deadlines and work within approved budgets; identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; develop and maintain strong professional relationships within the golf community; relate to a diverse population and integrate diverse viewpoints and opinions when working with staff, Foundation Board of Directors and donors; speak publicly on behalf of the Foundation; build morale and teamwork; develop strategies to help achieve the MGA Foundation’s business objectives and meet productivity and quality standards established for the MGA Foundation.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct the work of employees of the MGA Foundation. Carry out supervisory responsibilities as directed in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Degree from a four-year college or university; substantial experience with the nonprofit or business management sector that includes development/fundraising experience. Must possess strong knowledge of golf and the golf club community; have strong oral and written communication skills; be detail-oriented and well organized and have excellent interpersonal skills.
COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have experience with computers, both standard information systems and hardware, and be proficient in using word processing, spreadsheet, and database or contact management software, including Microsoft applications, e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other Windows applications; must have a working knowledge of Web site use and operations.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a car and valid driver’s license and provide proof of insurability. The job requires travel as necessary with overnight stays.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This is a full-time, salaried position. Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience.

The Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA), located in Elmsford, N.Y., is seeking a Foundation Director. The MGA was founded in 1897 and is one of the nation’s oldest and largest golf organizations, serving more than 500 member clubs and 140,000 golfers in the greater Metropolitan New York Area. The MGA offers its members a wide range of core services such as handicapping, course rating and measuring, and insurance programs, and conducts some of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious regional championships.
The MGA Foundation is the charitable arm of the MGA. It is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to growing the game through innovative programs designed to attract young people from all backgrounds. Our activities include junior competitions, junior clinics, caddie academies and the GOLFWORKS student intern program. The Foundation is also one of the founding partners of The First Tee of Metropolitan New York and helps direct the activities of five First Tee facilities in the tri-state area.
