Rye, N.Y. – William F. Souders of Wee Burn CC in Darien, CT, and member of the distinguished United States Seniors Golf Association, was named the first representative of the 2005 William C. Campbell Award winner at the Association’s Annual Championship 100th Anniversary Dinner at The Apawamis Club in Rye, NY on June 7th.
Souders, a retired Executive Vice President and Director of the Board of Xerox and CEO of and Chairman of Emery Air Freight Corporation, became a member of the USSGA in 1985. He has served in many capacities during this time including President from 1991-93, Executive Committee Chairman from 1993-95, Nominating Committee Chairman and International Team Captain from 1995-97.
A native of Darien, Souders served as Club President of Wee Burn as well as director of the International Golf Association’s “World Cup of Golf” in addition to being the Outside Director of the PGA Tournament’s Association responsible for interfacing PGA events with the PGA Tour.
Williams C. Campbell Award is given to a member of the USSGA who is “highly regarded for their significant contributions both to the Association and to the advancement of the amateur game of golf, and for always upholding the highest standards and ethics of that great game.” Mr. Campbell is a former USGA President, captain of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, and winner of the 1964 U.S. Amateur, two-time winner of the US Senior Amateur and eight-time Walker Cup member.
