Feng carded a pair of 73s on Tuesday and Wednesday to advance to match play as the No. 30 seed. She then used a strong performance in the middle of her round to take a 3-and-1 win over Jie-En Lin of Chinese Taipei. She trailed by a hole entering the sixth, but won five of the next six holes — three with birdies — to take a 4-up advantage. While Lin responded with back-to-back victories, Feng’s consistent play earned her another win with a three on the par-3 14th. The two traded Nos. 16 and 17 as Feng advanced. Feng will face No. 3 seed Asterisk Talley of Chowchilla, Calif., in the Round of 32, teeing off Friday at 9:30 a.m. Eastern.
Feng wasn’t the lone Met Area competitor in match play, as inaugural MGA Women’s Player of the Year in 2023 Katie Li used rounds of 71-77 to secure the No. 57 seed. Li, of Basking Ridge, N.J., had an evenly-contested match against Japan’s Yurina Hiroyoshi. The two traded holes on Nos. 2-5, but Hiroyoshi took Nos. 9 and 12 for the only wins the remainder of the match to take a 2-and-1 win.

Four competitors were exempt into the field. Nina Choe of New York, N.Y., captured the New York Women’s Amateur earlier this year, following up her win in New York’s Girls’ Junior. Choe, who already competed in the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship in which she advanced to the Round of 64, is a member of Team New York, one of the USGA’s National Development Programs’ state teams. Rayee Feng of Short Hills, N.J., is also in the field, exempt from her completing the U.S. Open in 2025. Reigning U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur champion Ina Kim-Schaad is in the field as well as she continues a competitive summer that’s included appearances in the R&A’s Women’s Amateur Championship and the Canadian Women’s Amateur. Ysabel Liu of Short Hills, N.J., secured her exemption by winning New Jersey’s Women’s Amateur title.
Three more competitors from the Garden State also advanced through qualifying to secure their spot at The Honors Course. Grace Lu of Edison, N.J., and Sarah Shao of Green Brook, N.J., both carded 3-under 69s to share co-medalist honors with two others at Copper Hill Country Club in Ringoes, N.J.
