JERICHO, N.Y. (May 27, 2026) – Morning rounds of even-par 72 held up throughout Day 1 of the 99th MGA Senior Amateur Championship, Wednesday, at Meadow Brook Club, as Michael Guli of Trump National Bedminster, Scott Mackesy of Winged Foot, and Patrick Pierson of Hollow Brook shared the day’s low score.

The trio owns a one-shot lead on a packed leaderboard, as five players posted 1-over 73s and five more tallied 2-over 74s.
Starting his round on the 10th, Pierson made the turn in 2-over, but closed strong with birdies on Nos. 6 and 8 for his even-par score. Mackesy, who owned the first round lead at GlenArbor two years ago, registered three birdies and three bogeys for his 72, while Guli’s scorecard balanced out with four birdies and four bogeys on the day.
The host club’s Dave Scialabba, a winner twice already this year in the senior divisions of the Richardson Memorial Invitational at Wheatley Hills and the Travis Invitational at Garden City Golf Club, and reigning Long Island Senior Player of the Year David Segot of Nassau Country Club lead the group of five at 1-over.
Scialabba reached 3-under through 10 holes, but a pair of double bogeys, a bogey and one more birdie led him to his 1-over round. Segot perhaps had the day’s steadiest round, carding just two bogeys to one birdie for his 73.
Also at 73 sit reigning Westchester Senior Amateur champion Kurtis Babczenko of Stanwich, Bart Weissman of Sterling Farms, and Bill Van de Graaf of Woodway.
Past champion and current MGA President Ned Zachar highlights the group of five at 2-over, which also includes Philip Mintz of Century, Woody Lashen of Wheatley Hills, past MGA President Tod Pike of Apawamis, and Chris Strnad of Tamarack.
Following the opening round at Meadow Brook, a cut was made to the low 40 scores and ties, with 42 players advancing at 5-over or better. Thursday’s final round will begin at 8 a.m., with pairs going off both Nos. 1 and 10. The final pairing of Pierson and Mackesy will tee off at 9:30 a.m.
Meadow Brook is hosting the MGA Senior Amateur Championship for the first time, after hosting a memorable Met Open Championship last August. The club, a founding member of the MGA, is a longtime supporter of local championship golf and has previously hosted the Ike, Amateur, and Met Open three times apiece.
