ELMSFORD, N.Y. (May 9, 2025) —Â For the sixth time in seven years, the MGA’s first major of the season will head to a first-time host as Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, N.J., prepares to welcome the 70th Ike MGA Stroke Play Championship, June 23-24.
The Ike was founded in 1953 by Daily News sportswriter Dana Mozley, but despite being a well-regarded event faced tough years in the 1970s and 80s. The MGA purchased its rights and began conducting the event in 1986. Within just a few years, the event was once again considered a top event in the Met Area. The 2025 playing marks the 40th edition of the Ike conducted by the MGA.

Hamilton Farm’s championship layout, a Dana Fry and Dr. Michael Hurdzan design that stretches across an expansive property, demands a mix of strength and strategy, while subtle breaks provide plenty of challenge on the greens.
As the region’s premier stroke play championship, the Ike has produced thrilling finishes from some of the Met Area’s top talents, especially over the last decade. Ten years ago, Cameron Young won his first of two-consecutive Ikes with a five-stroke victory at Friar’s Head, while other highlights include Matt Lowe’s 2017 victory behind a record-setting 61 at Century, Mark Costanza’s chip-in eagle win in 2020 at Country Club of Darien, Luke Sample’s win at the newly restored Lower Course at Baltusrol in 2022, and Peicheng Chen’s stunning final round 65 last year at Nassau.
The field already contains an outstanding roster of Met Area talents through exemptions, while the field will get rounded out and grow in depth of competitors through six qualifiers, which take place between May 13 and June 10.
The club itself already has strong representation in the field, with past Ike winner and four-time MGA champion Costanza, two-time MGA/MetLife Boys’ champion Reed Greyserman, reigning MGA Mid-Amateur champion Chester Patterson, past Met Amateur and MGA Mid-Amateur winner Pat Wilson, Justin Lankler, and Glenn Stephenson all exempt for the championship.
May 13 – Inwood Country Club, Inwood, N.Y.
After being postponed a week due to heavy rain, the first Ike qualifier saw David Segot of Nassau Country Club lead the field into the championship. Segot posted a 4-under 67, recording six birdies—including three in a row on holes four through six. Close behind was Philip Risman of GlenArbor Golf Club, who carded a 3-under 68.As the morning sun gave way to afternoon rain, the course played tougher. Andrew Watson of USGA/MGA GC, Tommy Mangan of Apawamis Club, Nicholas Simmons of MGA eClub NYC, and Andrew Osofsky of Huntington Country Club all finished at 2-under par. With eleven spots and ties available, sixteen golfers advanced with scores of 73 or better.

May 19 – North Fork Country Club, Cutchogue, N.Y.
With a full field and eleven qualifying spots available, Erik Carlston of Nassau CC topped the leaderboard with a 1-over-par 72 to claim medalist honors. Carlston carded three birdies during his round. Close behind was Mike Marnell of Colonial Springs, who posted a 2-over 73. Finishing at 3-over 74 were Matthew Kuchtyack of MGA eClub NJ, Dean Muratore of MET PGA Junior GC, Colin Coogan of Wykagyl CC, James McHugh of MGA eClub, Taylor Peck of Westchester CC, and Jack Maerki of Meadow Brook. In total, sixteen players advanced to the championship.

May 19 – Wiltwyck Golf Club, Kingston, N.Y.
The first qualifier in the Westchester area saw Ty Monroe of Wiltwyck GC take home medalist honors after firing a 3-under-par 69. Monroe used his home-course advantage to card four birdies and an albatross on the 17th hole. Following behind were Josh Yan of MGA eClub – HudV and Daniel Gabel of Mahopac G & BC, who both finished at even par. With seven spots and ties available, eight golfers advanced to the championship after shooting 3-over 75 or better.

May 27 – Lake Osiris Country Club, Walden, N.Y.
Dylan Gallagher of Rockland CC led a strong field at Osiris CC, carding an impressive 4-under 68 that included six birdies to secure the top qualifying spot. Close behind was Ben Carpenter of CC of Darien, who posted a 3-under 69 highlighted by an eagle and five birdies. Tied for third at 2-under par were Cody Cox of Black Oak GC, Derek Rogers of Meadow Brook Club, and John Hiller of Westchester CC. In total, nineteen golfers who shot 1-over par or better advanced to the championship.

June 9 – Lake Mohawk Golf Club, Sparta, N.J.
Despite steady rain and a modified 17-hole layout due to hole No. 2 being under construction, low scores led the way at Monday’s Ike qualifier. Robbie Herzig of Old Oaks Country Club and Thomas McCarthy of MGA eClub Connecticut shared medalist honors with matching 4-under 63s. Brendan Gutzler of Trump National Colts Neck followed with a 3-under 64, while Ethan Lee of MGA eClub New Jersey and Grey Miller of MGA eClub New York City each carded 65 to finish 2-under. Four players, Jose Ramirez of MGA eClub New Jersey, Benjamin Ortwein of Oak Hill Golf Club, Tyler Drewitz of MGA eClub New Jersey, and Preston Devieux of Plainfield Country Club, finished at 1-under 66. With 15 spots and ties available, 19 players advanced to the Championship.
June 10 – Watchung Valley Golf Club, Watchung, N.J.
A lengthy rain day split the action into two days for the final Ike qualifier. Despite the circumstances many golfers still finished with low scores. Barnes Blake of Baltusrol Golf Club led the way, carding a 3-under 68 with six birdies on the first 11 holes. Dean Greyserman from Hamilton Farm Golf Club and Rhett duPont of Fishers Island Club both finished tied for second with a 2-under 69. In total 16 competitors earned their spot in the Championship.
