ELMSFORD, N.Y. (June 6, 2025) – Between June 9-30, the youngest of the Met Areas’ golfers will compete for spots in the MGA’s junior championships. The 108th Met Junior Championship Sponsored by MetLife will take place for the first time at Southampton Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y., July 14-16. The 57th MGA/MetLife Boys’ Championship will then be held for the first time at Redding Country Club in West Redding, Conn., August 12-13.

The Met Junior is the oldest junior championship in the nation, gathering the region’s top players ages 18 and under. Players will compete over 36 holes of stroke play qualifying, with the leading 16 players advancing to match play to compete for the champion title. Southampton Golf Club and its classic design by Seth Raynor and Charles Banks will serve as a perfect fit for the Met Junior and its match play format.
The Met Junior Championship was founded in 1912 when Leighton Calkins, a member of the MGA Executive Committee, implemented H.B. Hollins’ plans for the junior event. The junior program broadened in 1969 with the addition of adding the Boys’ Championship for players 15 and younger. The Boys’ Championship starts directly in a 16-player match play bracket after spots are decided at the trio of qualifiers. This championship typically serves as a first-time match play experience for young competitors.
Three qualifiers will help decide the fields for the Met Junior and Boys’ championships.
Monday, June 9 – Peddie Golf Club, East Windsor, N.J.
Luke Krombholz from Metuchen, New Jersey led the qualifying field for the Championship. Krombholz’s six birdies earned him a score of 5-under 67. Following Closely behind is CJ Antifonario of Tenafly, New Jersey after shooting 3-under. Henry Balster of Madison, New Jersey, Enzo Allain of Basking Ridge, New Jersey and Michael Clifford-Levy of East Hampton, New York all shot 2-under par. Seventeen golfers punched their tickets to the Championship.
Henry Blake of Westfield, New Jersey led the boys field with an even score. Blake was the only player to walk away with an even-par score. His front nine score of two-under par helped anchor his round. Joining Blake is Chase Smith of Westfield New Jersey, John McCue of Bay Harbor Islands, Florida, Ryan Sun of Morganville New Jersey, Lukas DeVries of Summit New Jersey and Grant Rubach of Tenefly, New Jersey.

Wednesday, June 18 – Smithtown Landing Golf Course, Smithtown, N.Y.
104th Long Island Junior Championship
Hudson Vargas from New York, N.Y., led the way at Smithtown Landing finishing his day with a score of 4-under 68, highlighted by seven birdies to top the leaderboard. Close behind, Quinn Reilly of West Islip, N.Y., secured solo second after posting a 1-under 71, also notching five birdies on the day. Three players tied for third at even-par 72: Liam Moloney of Chester, N.Y., Felix Petrillo of Harrison, N.Y., and Gregory Psaki of Greenwich, Conn. Moloney’s round was highlighted by an eagle on the fifth hole to go along with three birdies. Petrillo and Psaki each added three and four birdies to secure their qualifying spots. Eighteen players in total advanced by shooting 2-over 74 or better. Among the most memorable performances was Yiwen Wang of Scarsdale, N.Y., who overcame a quadruple bogey on the opening hole and stormed back with two eagles and three birdies to safely finish inside the cut line.

80th Junior Championship / WGA 56th Boys Championship
Joe Carey of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., led the way at West Hills Country Club during qualifying in the Junior division. Carey secured medalist honors after carding a 1-under-par 71, highlighted by steady play throughout the day. Just one stroke behind Carey were Samuel Gao of Scarsdale, N.Y., and Minho Chung of Mahopac, N.Y., both finishing at even-par 72. In total, nine golfers advanced, with the qualifying cut falling at 3-over-par 75.
In the Boys Championship qualifier, Samuel Gao and Minho Chung continued their solid performances, both earning the top spot with even-par rounds of 72. Graham Erickson also secured his position with a 1-over 73, followed by Achira Wong of Scarsdale, N.Y., who took the final qualifying spot with a 3-over 75. Results
