Morgan Hoffmann, who in a three-year career at Oklahoma State became one of the most decorated collegiate players to come out of the Met Area, made his professional debut on a sponsor’s exemption at the Travelers Championship, which was held June 23 to 26 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. Hoffmann, 21, who won the 2005 Carter Cup and finished runner-up to Kevin Foley at the 2008 Ike Championship at Mountain Ridge Country Club, made the 36-hole cut after rounds of 68 and 67, and followed it up with two more rounds in the 60s over the weekend to finish tied for 43rd and earn $18,840.

A Wyckoff, N.J., native, Hoffmann attended the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy, now in Orlando, following two years at Ramapo High School. A 2009 Walker Cup team member, Hoffmann recorded five wins (two coming at the Big 12 Championship in his freshman and junior seasons), and thirteen top-ten finishes during his three years at Oklahoma State. During that time, some of his most notable accolades included being named a first-team All American twice and second team once, the Big 12 Player of the Year, Big 12 Rookie of the Year, and the Phil Mickelson Award for being the nation’s top freshman player.

Hoffmann was part of a talented field in Hartford that included his Oklahoma State teammate Kevin Tway as well as Cowboy alum and past champion of the Travelers, Hunter Mahan. Hoffmann will attempt to enter seven more PGA Tour events during the remainder of the 2011 season in an effort to earn enough money to avoid PGA Tour Qualifying School this fall.
