Smithtown Landing's Timpanaro and Dusenbury Win Women's Four-Ball
HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (October 18, 2016) – 47 teams of two took to the field at Huntington Crescent Club in Huntington, N.Y. in the hopes of becoming the 32nd MGA/MetLife Women’s Four-Ball Champions. This year’s field was extremely competitive, as it took a match of cards between two teams who finished at 9-under 62 in order to determine the net champions. In the end, Rita Timpanaro and Adele Dusenbury of Smithtown Landing emerged victorious with Coralea Lander and Marianne Patti of Willow Creek taking second place. Cheryl Webb and Kathleen Bailey of Glen Cove took third place after a match of cards broke the tie between the two teams that finished at 4-under 67.

Last year’s low gross champions emerged victorious again as Patrice Franco and Yong Park of EWGA – Long Island carded a round of 79. Close behind at 80 were Jill Boughrum and Maryellen Santopadre of Beacon Hill. Margaret Dunne and Helen O’Brien of Dunwoodie Yagaw took third with a score of 81.
Entry into the MGA/MetLife Women's Four-Ball Championship requires qualifying on the club level before teams can participate in one of the MGA's Sectional Qualifying Rounds. The competition is a two-woman team event, and each player must have an active USGA Handicap Index that does not exceed 28.0 at the time the team attempts to qualify at the club level, and the combined Handicap Index of the team may not exceed 48.0. The format of play at the club qualifying, sectional qualifying and championship levels is 18 holes of stroke-play on a gross and net better-ball basis.
Huntington Crescent Club played to a par 36-35-71 at 5,390 yards.
