Taste of the Met: Antinori Wines
The Antinori wine family dates back to the fourteenth century. It was only recently, however, that the family began welcoming visitors to its beautiful vineyards and wineries.
The showplace property is Antinori nel Chianti Classico, in Bargino. This modern estate opened in 
mid-March 2013, and is built into a hillside in the Chianti Classico region, with most of the rooms in a subterranean space that keeps the building from competing with the natural beauty outside. Also in the Chianti Classico district are the Osteria di Passignano restaurant and wine shop, and the Fonte de’ Medici farmhouse apartments and restaurant.
In Florence, you can visit La Cantinetta Antinori restaurant and wine bar, and also the Procacci wine and gourmet food shop. In western Tuscany, the Fattoria Le Mortelle is available for tours and tastings by reservation only, but wine, vegetables, and fruit products including jams and marmalades are for sale in the shop daily. And in Siena, tours and tastings at La Braccesca can likewise be arranged by contacting the winery in advance.
