Four Qualify for U.S. Senior Open
CLIFTON, N.J. (June 29, 2016) – Four players advanced through a Sectional Qualifying Round for the 2016 U.S. Senior Open at Upper Montclair Country Club on Tuesday.
The qualifiers, Frank Esposito of Old Bridge, N.J., Andrew Inman of Ridgefield, Conn., 2000 Met Open Champion Mike Gilmore of Bethel, Conn., and Bill Britton of Rumson, N.J., each carded rounds of 4-under 68 to earn co-medalist honors and advance to the championship, being held at Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio, August 8-14.

Britton, the 1979 Met Open champion and former PGA TOUR player, scored five birdies during his round, including four on the inward nine, to just one bogey.
Esposito, Gilmore, and Inman each recorded six birdies to two bogies for their 4-under rounds. Esposito, a teaching professional at Shackamaxon and Forsgate, used a strong run of four consecutive birdies on Nos. 10-13 after making the turn in even-par, before closing his round with five straight pars. Gilmore had a stretch of three straight birdies on Nos. 5-7 to fuel his round of 68. Inman began his round on the 10th hole, falling to three-over through two holes. A birdie on the par-4 13th turned his momentum, as he played the remainder of the round in 6-under, including a 4-under stretch over his final seven holes.
Two alternates, 2015 MGA Senior Open Mark Mielke of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Jim Roy of Syracuse, N.Y., were also designated, with Mielke obtaining 1st alternate status in a playoff.
Upper Montclair Country Club played to a par 72 at 6,686 yards for a starting field of 144 players.
