Ivy League Titles to be Decided at MGA Member Clubs

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (April 21, 2016) – A pair of college conference championships will be decided at MGA member clubs this weekend, as the men’s and women’s Ivy League Golf Championships take place at Metedeconk National Golf Club in Jackson, N.J., and The Stanwich Club in Greenwich, Conn., April 22-24.

The Ivy League’s Men’s Golf Championship is returning to a familiar site at Metedeconk National, which hosted the event from 2000-2004. The course welcomed the MGA’s Carey Cup last fall in a thrilling event, and is likely to provide the same excitement as the Ivy League crowns its 2016 champion.

The men’s championship will include several Met Area natives, including some names that are very familiar to MGA championships.

Senior Harrison Shih of Saddle River, N.J., is looking to lead his Columbia Lions back to the title, which the squad last won in 2014. Shih tied second in the 2012 Carter Cup, one of his earliest MGA appearances, and had an outstanding summer in 2014 as he advanced to match play in the Met Amateur and tied for fourth and was low amateur at the 2014 Met Open at Trump National Bedminster. Shih has led his squad this season with an average score of 71.13.

Cornell sports a trio of Met Area players on their squad in brothers Luke and Michael Graboyes of Watchung, N.J. and Christopher Troy of Greenwich, Conn. Luke and Michael teamed together to claim the MGA/MetLife Men’s Four-Ball Championship last summer at The Whippoorwill Club in Armonk, N.Y. Luke also advanced to the quarterfinals of the Met Amateur in 2015. Troy owns the scoring record for 18 holes at the Carter Cup, as he fired a round of 65 on Baltusrol Golf Club’s Upper Course in 2014.

Yale’s Will Bernstein of New York City, who represented the MGA in the 2013 Williamson Cup, Dartmouth’s Charles Cai of West Windsor, N.J., and Penn’s Josh Goldenberg of Scarsdale, N.Y. will also look to help their respective teams in the chase for a title.

Meanwhile, the Ivy League’s Women’s Golf Championship will take place for the first time in the state of Connecticut.

Harvard has captured five-straight titles, including a one-stroke win in 2016 over Yale, which includes 2015 Rookie of the Year Jennifer Peng of Highland Park, N.J.

Princeton's squad, which has won three events during the 2015-16 season, features Basking Ridge, N.J.'s Hana Ku, who is in her junior season. Ku claimed a pair of victories in 2014, winning the WMGA/MGA Women's Met Amateur and the WMGA/MGA Women's Public Links Championship.

Camilla Vik of Greenwich, Conn., is also in the field.
