Semifinal Matches Set for MGA/MetLife Boys
SHELTER ISLAND, N.Y., (August 13, 2015) - Four players are on their way to the semifinal matches at the 46th MGA/MetLife Boys Championship after advancing through the Round of 16 and quarterfinal matches today at Gardiner’s Bay Country Club on Shelter Island, N.Y.
Fresh off his MGA team victory at the 52nd Williamson Cup at Saucon Valley yesterday, Ethan Ng of New York, N.Y., advanced to semifinals after a 7 & 6 victory over Tyler Kim of New York, N.Y., in his first round, and then a 4 & 3 victory over the reigning Gardiner’s Bay Junior Club Champion, Matt Feinstein of Shelter Island, N.Y. Feinstein won his first round match 4 & 3 over Jake Hommel of Kingston, N.Y.
Facing Ng in the first semifinal match will be Nathan Han, of Somers, N.Y. Han, who made it to the Round of 16 in last month’s Met Amateur at Paramount, defeated Brian Feinstein, brother of Matt, 6 & 5. In the quarterfinals, Han defeated, Jimmy Apostolico, Jr from Sparta, N.J. 4 & 3. Apostolico was able to hold in his morning match for a 2 & 1 victory over Joseph Tammaro of West Islip, N.Y. Both Ng and Han have been having great summer seasons: they both played in the MGA Carter Cup and Han won the Met PGA Junior Championship.
For the second year in a row, Erik Stauderman, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. will be playing in the semifinals of the MGA/MetLife Boys Championship. It took 6 birdies and 19 holes, but Stauderman was able to overcome Ryan David Pongrac of Freehold, N.J. After defeating Thomas Corrigan of Irvington, N.Y. 3 & 1, Angelo Bonvino was not able to overcome the 3 birdies and great play of Erik Stauderman in the quarterfinals.
Taking the final spot in the semifinals was Andre Chi, of Huntington, N.Y. After defeating Jimin Jung, of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., 6 & 5 in the Round of 16, Chi went on to defeat Michael Paduano, of Shrewsbury, N.J. 3 & 2. Paduano advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Chris Lee, of West Nyack, N.Y. 3 & 2.
