Balin Wins on PGA TOUR Latinoamerica
ELMSFORD, N.Y. (May 26, 2015) - 2012 Met Open Champion Danny Balin of Greenwich, Conn., earned his first victory on the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica this weekend at the Guatemala Stella Artois Open. Balin's 54-hole score of 15-under was enough to win the rain shortened tournament at the beautiful Fuega Maya course at La Reunion Golf Resort in Antigua, Guatemala.
The 2013 Met PGA New York State Open Champion opened his tournament with a 2-under 70, and followed it up with a stunning 7-under 65. His third round 6-under 66 was the only bogey free round of the day and gave him a four shot lead heading into the final round. On his ninth hole he was tied for the lead with Marcelo Rozo of Bogota, Colombia, at 16-under par. Play was suspended due to rain and the tournament was not able to resume, shortening it to 54 holes and giving Balin the victory.
The four shot win earned Balin $31,500, vaulting him from 71st to 4th in one week on the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica's Order of Merit. He has now earned $34,445 in 2015 in four events and has made the cut in each, with two top-35 finishes and a tied for 42nd finish. Balin has almost doubled his earnings from 2014 in nine less events, and he hopes it is the first of many more wins to come.
