First Tee of Met NY Represented at Drive Chip and Putt
ELMSFORD, N.Y. (April 3, 2015) - Two participants of The First Tee of Metropolitan New York have qualified for the finals of the Drive, Chip & Putt Championship at Augustal National Golf Club on Sunday, April 5.
Megha Ganne of Jersey City, N.J. (Essex County participant) and Jennifer Rosenberg of Laurel Hollow, N.Y. (Eisenhower Park participant) advanced through local, sub-regional and regional qualifying to be a part of the 80 junior golfers invited to the finals at Augusta.
Local qualifying began last summer and was held at more than 250 sites throughout the U.S. From there, the top three players at each venue, in each of four age categories in boys and girls divisions, advanced to the sub-regional qualifiers, held in August. The top two from each of those 49 sites advanced to the regional level. Only the top finisher from each regional site (in age/gender divisions) qualified for the finals - no easy feat! Megha, competing in the 10-11 age group, and Jennifer who is in the 14-15 group, both locally qualified at Harbor Links in Port Washington, N.Y., then went on to sub-regionals at Eisenhower Park's Red Course before finishing at the top of their age groups at Bethpage's Green Course for Regionals.
Both talented girls will travel to Augusta for the first time for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. At the National Finals, one champion will be named from each age/gender division. A total of 16 First Tee participants made it to the final competition, which will be broadcast live on Golf Channel beginning at 8 a.m. on Sunday, April 5. Good luck to Megha and Jennifer!
