Esposito Wins Senior PGA Professional National Championship

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (November 17, 2014) - Add Frank Esposito's name to the list of Met Area locals tearing it up on the national golf scene. Recently it was Grant Sturgeon winning the PGA Assistants Championship, and last week it was David Pastore and Cameron Wilson advancing to the final stage of Web.com Tour Q-School. Esposito is the latest local to capture a national victory after his win yesterday at the 26th Senior PGA Professional National Championship at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The Monroe, N.J. native took a four shot lead into the final round and a steady round of 1-under 71 on the club's Wanamaker Course allowed Esposito to cruise to a victory and take home the Leo Fraser Trophy. The outstanding performance also earns him a spot in the 2015 Senior PGA Championship.

The 2013 NJ State Open Champion fired rounds of 64, 70, 67, and 71 for a four round total of 16-under 272, which gave him a four shot victory. This is his fourth win in 2014, with the first three coming at the NJPGA Match Play Championship, the NJPGA Head Pro Championship, and the NJPGA/NJSGA Senior Open. This latest win earned him $20,000 of the tournament's $285,000 purse.

A number of other locals made the trip to Florida in the hopes of grabbing a spot in the top 35, which would earn them an exemption into the 2015 Senior PGA Championship. The only one who will be joining Esposito at the French Lick Resort next year though is Bobby Heins of Old Oaks, who tied for 32nd thanks to a 1-under four day total of 287. Missing the top 35 by just one stroke was Mark Mielke of Mill River, who finished at even par.

A few locals were able to make the 36-hole cut this weekend as well, including Craig Thomas of Metropolis, David Young of Sleepy Hollow, and Charles Bolling of Glen Cove, N.Y.
