Paul R. DIllon Re-Elected Preident of the MGA

ELMSFORD, N.Y.-Paul R. Dillon of Mamaroneck, New York, was elected to a second one-year term as President of the Metropolitan Golf Association at the MGA’s Annual Meeting on Wednesday, December 3rd at the Westchester Country Club.  Dillon, a member of the Winged Foot Golf Club, is the Association’s 56th President, and will head a 22-member Executive Committee, as well as serve as Chairman of the Association’s charitable Foundation.

 

Dillon has been an active MGA committeeman for more than a decade, serving as the Association’s Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice-President before his tenure as President, and has also been a member of the MGA’s Management and Public Golf committees.  He is also a former President of the Westchester Golf Association, and has headed the WGA’s Caddie Scholarship Fund as well.

 

Paul Dillon is a graduate of Iona College, and is currently in his eighth year as golf coach at Fordham University.  The 68-year-old Winged Foot member is also a talented portrait artist who has painted numerous local and national golf figures, including “The Big Three”- Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player, as well as Payne Stewart.  He resides in Mamaroneck, NY, with his wife of 41 years, Mary Ellen; they have six children including well-known actors Matt and Kevin Dillon.

 

Also re-elected at the Annual Meeting were Vice-President Donald J. Hendler of the Meadow Brook Club, and Secretary-Treasurer, J. Michael Carter of Baltusrol Golf Club.  A list of the full committee is attached.

 

The MGA’s 22-member Executive Committee includes two new elected members, Edward F. McAdams of the Nassau Country Club and Allan Small of Fairmount Country Club.  They replace Rees Jones of the Montclair Golf Club and John Martin of Deepdale Golf Club, both of whom will continue to serve on the Foundation Board of Directors.  Also joining the Committee is Jeffrey M. Liebler of Suburban Golf Club, who succeeds Donald K. Brief as President of the New Jersey State Golf Association.

 

The Annual Meeting was attended by over 230 club delegates, MGA Committeemen, members of the press, and representatives of the local and national golf communities.  The highlights of the meeting were the presentation of the Association’s highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award, to Charlie Robson, the Executive Director of the Metropolitan Section of the PGA, and the awarding of the MGA Jerry Courville, Sr., Player of the Year Award jointly to Jerry Courville, Jr., of the Shorehaven Golf Club (for the sixth time), and to Andrew Svoboda of the Winged Foot Golf Club, the 2003 Met Open winner.

 

The MGA was founded in 1897, and is one of the nation’s oldest and largest regional golf associations, with more than 500 member clubs in the tri-state Metropolitan Area.
