Sixteen Remain After Day One of the 87th MGA Junior Championship
Denville, NJ-After day one, sixteen juniors survived rounds one and two of the 87th MGA Junior Championship. Among the notables are Brendan Tracy of New York City, who edged out Ryan Barnett of Syosset, NY 2 and 1 in the second round after surviving a morning scare holding off Robert Christie of Darien, CT, 1 up. The 16-year-old is continuing his solid play, since tying for 4th place in last month’s Ike Championship at Quaker Ridge. Andrew Giuliani, looking to improve on last year’s defeat to Michael Quagliano in the finals, was ousted by Robert Cronheim of Watchung, NJ, 5 and 4 in the second round.
2003 MGA Boys Champion Mark Costanza, of Upper Saddle River, NJ surged into the quarterfinals by defeating Ryan Schermerhorn of Mendham, NJ 4 and 3 after downing Jared Pinchasick, of Roslyn Heights 3 and 2 in morning action.
The sixteen will compete in the third and quarterfinal rounds tomorrow when the field will then be narrowed to four after another 36-holes of match play.
