McConie leads the way after day 1 of the Michael Hebron Championship

Farmingdale N.Y. (July 2, 2024) The 2024 Michael Hebron Amateur Championship kicked off today under bright skies at Bethpage State Park’s Black Course, a venue steeped in history and prestige.

Michael McConie of Colonial Springs Golf Club took the early lead with an impressive 3-under 68. McConie started his round with a bogey but quickly turned his game around. He notched five birdies to finish strong and secure his spot at the top of the leaderboard.

Trailing not far behind was James Bradley of MGA eClub, who carded a steady 1-under 70. Bradley's round featured two birdies and a series of fifteen solid pars that kept him in contention.

Although McConie and Bradley were the only two players to finish under par another notable performance came from Ben Mitchell of Fresh Meadow Country Club. Despite a challenging front nine where he struggled to a 4-over 39, Mitchell showcased remarkable resilience on the back nine. He fired five birdies, clawing his way back to finish with an even-par 71.
Overall, 40 players qualified for the final day with scores of 6-over 77 or lower.

Play is set to resume tomorrow at 7:30 AM.
