Perrotta Claims 22nd Women's Met Amateur
GLEN COVE, N.Y. (June 18, 2024) – Samantha Perrotta of Peddie Golf Club won the 22nd Women’s Met Amateur on Tuesday at Nassau Country Club with an even-par 70.
Perrotta was in the second pairing out in the morning and was the clubhouse leader for nearly three hours, waiting to see if anyone could catch her. Perrotta limited her mistakes on Tuesday. The 34-year-old made 13 pars, tied for the most in the field, but limited bogeys and doubles with only two total — one of each — the fewest in the field.
MGA eClub - New Jersey member and recent MGA/WMGA Women's Public Links champion Grace Lu was tied with Perrotta when she started the 18th hole. However, from the left rough, Lu hit her second shot over the green and couldn’t get up and down to save par, eventually making double-bogey on the hole to finish at 2-over and in a tie for second place.
Perrotta took advantage of the front side, which played a half-shot easier than the back. She went out in 2-under 33 with birdies on the par-3 third and par-5 fourth. A bogey on No. 10 and a double on No. 13 moved her back to 1-over. Then, on the par-4 17th, Perrotta stuffed her approach for a kick-in birdie to get back to even par.
Ava Lozito, a WMGA member and a former MGA/WMGA Women's Public Links winner, birdied No. 18 to finish at 2-over and in a tie for second place. Lozito was the only competitor to birdie the final hole. Ami Gianchandani from Watchung Valley finished in solo fourth at 3-over.
Corinna Limbocker from Otterkill and Samantha Galantini of Montclair rounded out the top five at 4-over.
This year, the MGA took on an enhanced leadership role in the Women’s Met Amateur Championship, administering and conducting the championship with collaboration and support from the Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association. The MGA aims to enhance the championship in future years, including introducing a multi-round, multi-day format in 2025 that would make it eligible for World Amateur Golf Ranking points.
