Caron Finishes T4 in Senior PGA Championship

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (May 27, 2024) -- Past Long Island Open champion and reigning Long Island Senior Open champion Jason Caron of Mill River Club drew a lot of attention over the weekend after finishing tied for fourth in the Senior PGA Championship at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Mich. Caron, 51, registered rounds of 69-70-67-66 en route to the 12-under finish, with the tie for fourth standing as the best finish by a PGA of America Golf Professional since Roy Vucinich's same finish in 2002.

"To be able to come out here and compete definitely shows me deepd won that I can still hang a little bit," Caron said.

Caron began the final round just three shots off the pace and began with birdies on his first two holes. Caron, who competed on the PGA TOUR and KornFerry Tour, is a 24-year PGA of America member. The hot start continued, as he tallied six birdies on his first 10 holes.

He ended up shooting even-par over his final nine en route to capturing low PGA of America Professional honors.

Caron earned plenty of compliments from fellow competitors, with Richard Green noting, "He hits it good enough to be out on the Champions Tour full time."

Though Caron's finish provided plenty of excitement and some projections on what's next, he remains focused on his family and not trying to play week to week.

"I love what I do. Maybe things would be different if I didn't have kids," remarked Caron, whose wife, Liz, is also a PGA of America Professional at Mill River. "Maybe I would say, hey, why wouldn't I go out and try to play more? Having little kids and being able to watch them grow up means a lot more to me than hitting a white golf ball down the fairway. It just does."

Frank Esposito, Jr. of Mountain Ridge also made the cut, shooting 68-71 over the first two days before closing the championship with scores of 76-77 to finish tied for 67th.
