44 Advance to Plainfield for MGA Lexus Senior Open

WALDEN N.Y. (August 10, 2023) -- On a day that saw periods of heavy rain at Osiris Country Club the field is now set for the 27th Lexus MGA Senior Open Championship, which will take place August 28-29 at Plainfield Country Club in Edison, N.J., as it hosts the event for the first time. Year after year, the championship field gets deeper and deeper as more players reach the age of eligibility.

Casey O’Reilly of Mount Tabor and Kirk Orguri of Pete’s Golf Shop topped the field with scores of 1-under 71 and were the only players to finish under par. O’Reilly had an up and down start carding three birdies and two bogeys across his opening nine. He found consistency coming in, logging pars on every hole. Orguri was the opposite, logging a birdie on the front, then three bogies and three birdies on the back, including one on the last, to secure his spot atop the leaderboard with O'Reilly.

Russ Aue of Nasau Players was the top qualifying amateur, finishing at even par after recording five birdies and five bogeys for the round. Michael Durkin of Winged Foot also finished at even par with a 72 to tie for third place.

Overall, 44 players - 21 of them amateurs - advanced to the championship at Plainfield Country Club. Players shooting a 9-over 79 or better advanced.
