Nogalo Wins Women's Met Amateur at Essex County

WEST ORANGE, N.J. (June 13, 2023) – Eighteen-year-old Sofia Nogalo captured her first MGA/WMGA title on Tuesday, winning the the 21st MGA/WMGA Women’s Met Amateur Championship at Essex County Country Club.

Nogalo, playing out of Hollow Brook Country Club, took advantage of three birdies through the first seven holes to finish even on front nine. Although conditions were windy, she remained in control throughout the day.

Standing on 18 tee, Nogalo and her playing partner Sammie Dolce of Basking Ridge Country Club were tied. Nogalo made it on the green in two, then lagged it close and drained the birdie putt to finish the day at 4-over par, one shot clear of Dolce and the rest of the field.

“I was really happy to make that last putt and win," said Nogalo. "Sometimes I get nervous on the last couple of holes, but I felt really, really confident on 17 and 18.”

Dolce finished solo second, shooting 5-over 78. Three players finished in a tie for third, carding rounds of 6-over 79. Ellen Oswald of Westchester Country Club finished with the low net score, with a 1-over 74.
