Similar to champion Jon Rahm, Young withstood having the challenging draw due to weather. After his 5-under 67 in the opening round, Young turned in scores of 72-75 which included a pair of double bogeys in pouring rain.

In his final round, Young began with three birdies in his first five holes. After a bogey on the par-3 12th, Young came back with an eagle on the par-5 13th, making a downhill 47-footer for eagle. He finished birdie-bogey for his 68.

As Young continues to give himself opportunities in major championships, he gets more and more comfortable in the situation.

"I am really comfortable," said Young after his final round. "I think I mentioned a couple days ago, I really didn't have any first-tee nerves, and I don't know, I think the more I'm out here, the more I see these golf courses, I think they just generally suit my game quite well. I've obviously proven to myself that I can compete and contend in them. I have no reason, I think, not to continue to do that."

Young now heads to Hilton Head Island, S.C., for the RBC Heritage. Last year Young finished in a seven-way tie for third in the championship at Harbour Town Golf Links, one shot out of a playoff between Patrick Cantlay and eventual champion Jordan Spieth.

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (April 6, 2023) -- Four-time MGA champion and former MGA Player of the Year Cameron Young made three birdies to open his second career Masters Tournament, Thursday, eventually turning in a 5-under 67 to stand among the top of the day's early starting times.

Young, who carded a pair of 77s in his Masters debut in 2022, looked poised from the start as he rolled in a pair of birdies from 11 feet on the first two holes and added another from just three feet on the third. Young's lone miscue on the opening nine came from a three-putt on the par-3 sixth, as he made the turn in 2-under 34.

The No. 14 player in the Official World Golf Ranking opened his second nine with birdie as well, knocking his approach from 165 yards out to just three feet. While he added another bogey on the par-3 12th after his tee shot sailed into a back bunker, Young responded immediately with a birdie on the par-5 13th, draining a 19-footer. Two more circles on the scorecard came on Nos. 15 and 16, with Young two-putting the par-5 15th for birdie before he nestling his tee shot on the par-3 16th to just four feet.

Young is coming off a runner-up finish in the Dell Technologies Match Play in Austin, but has felt his game rounding into form.

"I've been playing well, I feel like," said Young on Wednesday. "The result in Austin was more reflective of it than a lot of them before that kind of early this season. But I feel like it's been going the right direction and just excited to get the week started."

Austin was Young and new caddie Paul Tesori's first tournament together, with Tesori joining Young after a long partnership with Webb Simpson.

"His golf course analysis is unbelievable," says Young of Tesori. "I think this is his 21st Masters. He's still out there learning, which is unbelievable to me. I feel like every hole he picks something out and gets a new number that he hasn't had before."

Young also switched up his arrival slightly from last year, this year arriving Monday afternoon instead of early Sunday. "I've played maybe 27 holes in three days," said the 25-year-old. "I just feel a bit more rested. I think it's just a better way for me to go in general."

Young's preparation paid off in round one at Augusta National. He returns to action Friday afternoon at 1:18 p.m.
