Qualifying: 122nd U.S. Amateur Championship

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (July 11, 2022) - The MGA will conduct four qualifiers for the 122nd U.S. Amateur Championship between July 11 and July 18, giving players the chance to punch their ticket to the national championship right here in the Met Area at The Ridegwood Country Club in Paramus, N.J., August 15-21. The first two days of the championship consist of 36-holes of stroke play, with Arcola Country Club serving as the stroke-play co-host. Sixty-four players then advance to match play for the remainder of the championship, with a 36-hole final ultimately determining a champion.

July 11 - Westchester Hills Golf Club, White Plains, N.Y.
Christian Cavaliere of Katonah, New York dominated the field at Westchester Hills, going 9-under on the day, eight strokes lower than his nearest competitor, to cruise into the US Amateur.  While Cavaliere shot just 2-under in the afternoon round, his eight birdies in the morning cemented his spot in the championship.  Haymes Snedeker of Daphne, Alabama, brother of professional golfer Brandt Snedeker, also qualified at 1-under following a 4-hole playoff.  Snedeker managed to outlast Christopher Fosdick of Middlefield, Connecticut, and Ryan Coughlin of Rye, New York, who took first and second alternate respectively.

July 12 - Tamarack Country Club, Greenwich, Conn.
Jackson Fretty of Greenwich, Conn., took advantage of the hometown qualifier, carding rounds of 70-71 (+1) to earn medalist honors by two shots and secure a spot at Ridgewood in August. Fretty carded five birdies on the day and overall played consistent golf to qualify for his first-ever USGA event. Meanwhile, Rick Dowling of Shelton, Conn., is also looking forward to his first-ever USGA appearance, as rounds of 71-72 (+3) secured the second and final qualifying position. Dowling also delivered consistent play all day, recording 29 pars on the day. Cody Paladino of Hartford, Conn., earned the first alternate position with a birdie on the first hole of a 2-for-3 playoff, while Brad Tilley of Easton, Conn., made birdie on the fourth playoff hole to secure the second alternate position.

July 13 - Pine Hollow Club, East Norwich, N.Y.

Pietro Bovari of Milano, Italy led the field with an impressive 7-under for the day. Bovari carded rounds of 65 and 70 to earn his spot at Ridgewood. Overall, Bovari shot 12 birdies, 8 coming from the morning round. Jack Woods of Danbury, Connecticut also punched his ticket to Ridgewood with a total score of 5-under. Woods stayed consistent over the two rounds, shooting a 69 and 68. The first alternate position went to Christopher Pieper, who finished 4-under. In a 3-for-1 playoff, James Alden of East Northport, New York birdied the third playoff hole to secure his spot as second alternate.

July 18 - Essex Fells Country Club, Essex Fells, N.J.

Dougie Ergood Jr. of Mount Laurel, N.J. shot an 8-under 132 to earn medalist honors and join Austin Devereux of Manasquan, N.J., as the two qualifiers for the US Amateur.  Ergood had nearly identical rounds as he posted five birdies in round one, followed by six in the second, carding a pair of 66s.  Devereux, who finished the qualifier at 6-under, had a impressive start in round one, shooting a qualifier low 65.  Propelled by an eagle on the first hole, and not a single bogey in his first round, Devereux was able to carry his hot start to a qualifying position, finishing with a 65-69-134.  Following a playoff to determine alternate positions, Reed Greyserman of Boca Raton, F.L. took first alternate and Trevor Randolph of Franklin Lakes, N.J. took second.
