SCARSDALE, N.Y. (June 21, 2021) – Sunningdale Country Club was no match for the brilliance of Jackie Rogowicz during Monday's U.S. Women's Amateur Championship qualifier. The Yardley, Pa., native finished the day with only one bogey on the scorecard to go along with five birdies and an eagle for a tournament best 6-under 65. Rogowicz led the way as four others – Emily Odwin of Barbados, Valentina Rossi of Argentina, Samantha Yao of Berwyn, Pa., and Lauren Peter of Carmel, N.Y. – have also qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur. The Championship will be held between August 2-8 at Westchester Country Club in Rye, N.Y.

Rogowicz credited her great round to her putting. “I putted really well, I made a lot of one putts.” She felt this was important because at this course the greens can be very tough. “The toughest thing is knowing where the pin is on the green because the greens are so big and there’s a lot of slope," she said. "You could be in the wrong spot and it could be difficult, so I was kind of just like plotting my way around making sure I put myself in a good spot on the greens.”

Among the others to qualify, Odwin turned in an excellent round of 5-under 66 with only a single bogey as well. Rossi and Yao played solid finishing at 2-under 69.

The last qualifying spot could not be determined in regulation and required a playoff with four players fighting for one spot qualifying spot along with two alternates. After Peter and Linda Wang birdied the first playoff hole and Catherine Park and Faith Choi made pars, Peter and Wang were now fighting for the one qualifying spot with the next getting the first alternate position. A par by Peter on the second playoff hole gave her the qualifying position. Park also made par on the second playoff hole giving her the 2nd alternate position.
