Remembering Al Mengert: Golf lost one of its greatest club-pro players ever with the passing of Al Mengert in April. Mengert, who worked at Winged Foot and Echo Lake, excelled locally (winning the 1960 Met Open and finishing first or second in five straight New Jersey Opens) and nationally (competed in 27 majors including eight consecutive Masters, led the 1954 U.S. Open after 45 holes and the ’58 Masters with six holes to play).
