ELMSFORD, N.Y. (August 13, 2013) - A plethora of some of the most talented Met Area players have completed their first round of play at the coveted U.S. Amateur Championship at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. Each player seeks a magical and historic week like Francis Ouimet had 100 years ago, when he captured the U.S. Open Championship on the same hallowed grounds.

Fourteen total players out of the field of 312 are from the Met Area, including four past MGA champions. 18 holes of qualifying on either The Country Club or Charles River Country Club remain in order to advance to the 64-man match play bracket in the nation's most prestigious amateur event.

Day 1 is complete and four Met locals shot even-par or better to crack the top 20.

Here's how the Met Area fared after 18 holes:  

Max Adler of Norwalk, Conn. — Adler shot 76 (six-over) on the Charles River track and stands tied for 175th.

Peter Ballo of Stamford, Conn. — Like Adler, Ballo shot 76 at Charles River and will head to The Country Club tied for 175th.

Sam Bernstein of New York, N.Y. —  Bernstein used back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17 to shoot 74 (four-over) at The Country Club (the more difficult of the two) and is tied for 112th.

Corey Birch of Ridgefield, Conn. — Birch shot 80 (ten-over) and is tied for 265th.

Dylan Crowley of Los Angeles, Calif. — Crowley shot six-over at The Country Club and heads to Charles River tied for 175.

Alex Edfort of Somerset, N.J. — Alex used three birdies to card 71 (one-over) and rests tied for 36th.

Theo Humphrey of Greenwich, Conn. — Shot 78 (eight-over) and is tied for 222nd.

Jim Liu of Smithtown, N.Y. - Liu birdied four holes at The Country Club and shot two-over, good enough for a tie at 59th.

Mike Miller of Brewster, N.Y. — Miller was the only Met Area player to go under par and one of only 17 out of the entire field, firing a 69  (one-under) at The Country Club. He stands tied for 11th.

Dylan Newman of New Rochelle, N.Y. — Newman struggled in his first round, shooting twelve-over at The Country Club.

Cameron Young of Scarborough, N.Y. — Young had five birdies at Charles River and shot even-par to tie for 18th.

Jeremy Wall of Brielle, N.J. — Jerry finished his first round at 81 (eleven-over)

Cameron Wilson of Rowayton, Conn. — Wilson, like Young, also shot even-par 70 and heads to Charles River tied for 18th.

Steven Zychowski of Mendham, N.J. — Zychowski also finished at even-par at The Country Club and is tied for 18th before his round at Charles River.
