ELMSFORD, N.Y. (August 9, 2013) - A plethora of some of the most talented Met Area players will be in the field when the U.S. Amateur Championship begins on Monday, August 12 at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. They'll seek a magical and historic week like Francis Ouimet had 100 years ago, when he captured the U.S. Open Championship on the same hallowed grounds.

Thirteen total players out of the field of 312 are from the Met Area, including four past MGA champions. They'll compete in 36-hole stroke play qualifying on both The Country Club and Charles River Country Club in order to advance to the 64-man match play bracket in the nation's most prestigious amateur event.

The players competing are:  

Max Adler of Norwalk, Conn. — Adler competed in this year's Met Amateur and won medalist honors at the East Norwalk, Conn., SQR. He's currently a writer with Golf Digest. 

Peter Ballo of Stamford, Conn. — Having a solid season thus far, Ballo finished as the runner-up at the CSGA Amateur, qualified for the Met Am, and made the on-site cut at the CSGA Open. 

Sam Bernstein of New York, N.Y. — The stroke play medalist at this year's Met Amateur, Bernstein is entering his senior year at Yale University (was named Ivy League Player of the Year for 2012-'13). Bernstein also finished T9 (third low amateur) at the Long Island Open and finished T3 at the Ike Championship. 

Corey Birch of Ridgefield, Conn. — Headed into his freshman yeat at UConn, Birch is a two-time (2011-10) club champion at Silver Spring Country Club. He was the captain at Ridgefield High School where he won the Outstanding Achievement Golf Award.

Dylan Crowley of Los Angeles, Calif. — The St. John's University golfer has had several top finishes this year, including a runner-up in the Long Island Open at Fresh Meadows. Crowley was the medalist at the Harbor Links Sectional, advanced to match play in the Met Am, and qualified for the U.S. Amateur last summer at Cherry Hills.

Alex Edfort of Somerset, N.J. — Was the medalist at the Canoe Brook SQR. Edfort recently graduated from the University of Pacific, where he was named Big West Conference Player of the Year after his junior season. He was featured in a recent Met Golfer EXTRA story. 

Theo Humphrey of Greenwich, Conn. — Was medalist at the U.S. Amateur SQR at Rockrimmon by six shots. Humphrey was a member of the winning MGA Williamson Cup team a summer ago, won the 2011 MGA/MetLife Boys Championship, and also advanced to match play at this year's U.S. Junior Amateur. 

Jim Liu of Smithtown, N.Y. The 2010 U.S. Junior Amateur winner recently finished as a semifinalist at the British Amateur and was a member of the winning MGA Carey Cup team this past April, as well as the victorious Junior Ryder Cup team last year. He'll attend Stanford University in the fall. 

Mike Miller of Brewster, N.Y. — The two-time reigning MGA Player of the Year is playing in his third consecutive U.S. Amateur (was knocked out in the Round of 32 last year). He was exempt due to his World Amateur Golf Ranking (No. 35). His high finishes this season include a T3 at the Sunnehanna, T3 at the Ike, T3 at the Portuguese Am and runner-up in the Travis Invitational at Garden City Golf Club. 

Dylan Newman of New Rochelle, N.Y. — Made it all the way to the semifinals of the Met Amateur at Stanwich and finished as the third low am in the NYS Open. Newman also made the cut at the Westchester Open and finished T10 at the Mittelmark Invitational. 

Cameron Young of Scarborough, N.Y. — Won the Met Junior this year at Fairview CC, then flew directly to California, where he finished as a quarterfinalist in the U.S. Junior Amateur. Most recently, Young finished T5 at the PGA Junior Championship in Washington D.C. 

Jeremy Wall of Brielle, N.J. — Wall finished as the runner-up to Young in the Met Junior and also advanced to match play at the U.S. Junior. He finished T4 at the Carter Cup and is entering his senior year at Christian Brothers Academy in New Jersey. 

Cameron Wilson of Rowayton, Conn. — A seven-time MGA champion, including the last two Ike Championships in runaway fashion, Wilson was exempt into the field due to his World Amateur Golf Ranking (No. 31). The 2009 MGA Player of the Year is having another stellar summer, recording top 10s in renowned amateur events including the Sunnehanna, Northeast Amateur, and Porter Cup. He's entering his senior year at Stanford. 

Steven Zychowski of Mendham, N.J. — Zchowski is playing in his third U.S. Amateur in the last four years. He recently graduated from Holy Cross, where he led the team in stoke play average (75.7) during his senior year.
